Rhino River Lodge Casts Safari Love Spells

Roses are red, violets are blue. Be careful; Rhino River Lodge may cast a safari love spell on you. Love is in the air during this time of year with February 14th being an extra special holiday that sets free the romantic side in us all. Let’s leave it to this luxury and cozy safari lodge that’s inherently a fairytale place to say “Yes.”

Rhino River Lodge has turned safari engagements into a bit of a trend with many beautiful proposals taking place at the lodge recently. Each one fit to be listed in a South African wedding magazine. Valentine’s Day is tenderly creeping onto our calendars, making it the perfect time to find out what makes this place such a romantic delight:

Nelli and Chris, April 2014

Nelli: “On arrival at Rhino River Lodge we were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown to our chalet. After some lunch, a dip in the pool and a game drive filled with spectacular sightings, it was time for us to treat our bellies to an African-style feast. Chris had arranged a private boma dinner for us, as it was my birthday. Little did I know, that the real reason he smelled of True Pheromones and had this exceptional dining arrangement under the African sky, surrounded by lanterns, was to ask me to marry him.

Once we had finished our delightful meals, we sat down by the private bonfire. That is where he popped possibly the most meaningful question of his life. My response was: “Yes”.

Daryn and Kirsty, August 2014

Daryn: “When wanting to pop the question at Rhino River Lodge, it was a huge toss-up between two romantic settings. I had a choice of proposing while on a game drive in the middle of the open bush where the big 5 roam, or to propose when having dinner where it could be just the two of us. I spoke to the manager and she told me that the dinner would be the best time and place and that they’d set it all up.

The boma is secluded and extremely romantic. It was a perfectly clear evening so we could see every possible star in the sky. They had a candle lit path down to our table with a fire going next to the table. The whole time I was trying to down play how romantic it was because I’m not the romantic type, and my girlfriend would have known something was going on. After we had our starter the waiter winked at me and I knew this was the sign that he was going to leave us alone. I then got down on my knee and asked if she would marry me. She, of course, said yes!”

When we asked Daryn to look back on his recent engagement, he had this to say:

“Looking back there is no way I could have pulled this off without the help of all the wonderful staff members. They all knew what my intentions were there but all kept hush hush. They set up the most romantic evening my fiancé and I could ever have asked for. The food was out of this world with a complimentary bottle of Champaign to add to the lavish engagement evening. We were able to sip on our Champaign while enjoying our romantic dinner under the stars. Thank you Rhino River Lodge for our once in a life time experience.”

Love knows no borders, and these two couples’ safari engagements are a true testament to the endearing saying.
