Founded in 2000, [highlight] TripAdvisor [/highlight] is the perfect platform for travellers around the world to have their say about their stay. Accordingly the [highlight] Telegraph.co.uk [/highlight] , around 300million travellers use the site every month and more than 155 contributions are made per minute.
TripAdvisor is a great way to read up about places you might be considering visiting or staying at whilst on holiday. We absolutely love it as an authentic means of user-created exposure for our safari lodge clients (who all often receive outstanding reviews). After all, what better way to market a place than by sharing the real experiences of previous guests?
If a lodge has mainly positive reviews then of course travellers will be more likely to book at that place, however, it is human nature to want to voice your complaints more so than your compliments. Thus the site has become the disgruntled traveller’s best friend. Angry, upset and disappointed reviews can be found all over TripAdvisor and hotel owners insist that just a few bad reviews can ruin business for them. While many travellers definitely do have a foot to stand on when it comes to their complaints, there are also some pretty ridiculous ones and not too long ago there was a major problem when it came to companies posting terrible reviews about their rivals and glowing reviews of themselves (which has now been crunched down on by Trip Advisor themselves. Only previous guest’s real reviews allowed.) Just for some giggles, here are a few of the more hilarious ones from the past:
