We released a new (and pretty darn special) website for our friends at Mbali Mbali game lodges and camps, this past week.
Mbali Mbali are a unique African Safari setup in Tanzania. What’s different about this crew is that instead of using the allure of the Big Five they focus on chimp tourism as their main draw card. Rather than putting you on a game drive and showing you the African wild from a distance, they much prefer to get you up close and personal with chimpanzees. Yup, wild, African chimps who go by the names of Flirt, Gremlin and Rambo (to name but a very few).
Right in the beginning Mbali Mbali came to us with a curious request – they wanted a ‘Chimpanzee Family Tree’ to document and showcase their charismatic furry friends. Apparently their chimpanzee neighbours live in tight-knit family units, each with distinct and colourful personalities. Mbali Mbali wanted each chimp to be profiled on the site – each showing a mug-shot, birth-date and background info. Visitors could log on and view this by clicking on each chimp’s name on the family tree. They also wanted to have access to the database and as the family tree grows, they could then log on, add infant chimps, and amend info of the late chimps who pass on.
This was a bit of a head scratch for us, but in the end we pulled off a dynamic family tree for your viewing pleasure. We suspect that this page is going to be the website’s most popular for years to come, for sure…
Another great feature of the website is the dynamic map of Tanzania on the homepage. If you roll over any of Mbali Mbali’s camps (the red dots) on the map an info bar pops up with details of their accommodation.
Last, but not least, is the site’s stunning African imagery, on their ‘Galleries’ section. These blokes are avid photographers and we have given them access to full management system where they can log on and upload fresh images on the trot. They are super keen to keep you connected and you can bet that they will be doing so with their monkey business for years to come.
