Do you ever wake up in the night wondering how WildWeb started? Maybe it’s not one of your middle-of-the-night ponders, but it is a valid question and one we are happy to answer thanks to the Internet Wayback Machine!
As cheesy at is sounds, it started with a passion for travelling Southern Africa and that passion of ours hasn’t dwindled since. In fact, it’s amplified and expanded far past our wildest dreams and we’ve got a timeline to prove it.
WildWeb Through the Years:
2001: WildWeb comprised of Paul Changuion and Hayden Phipps, two young (LOL) web developers who worked on the road, developing websites for safari parks and game lodges across Southern Africa. Less working, more partying was the motto, but nonetheless relationships in the safari industry were made.
Paul trying to squeeze Internet from a pay phone.
2002: Paul decided to dip his feet into the tour operating business and partner with Rica Travel. A Southern and East African Travel Guide hosted by WildWeb in conjunction with Rica Travel. Travelling was still the name of the game, as Paul and Hayden photographed, developed brochures and built websites sites remotely throughout Southern and East Africa.
Packing up from some “on-site” work.
2006: Rebuilt the 2002 tour operating website.
2007: WildWeb said goodbye to the tour operating site and focused on web development, print media, photography, and web hosting. Jono (who is still with us today) built an overly complicated Flash website for the new identity. How times have changed!
2011: We created a new website and the digital marketing side of the business launched. Our portfolio has accumulated some of South Africa’s top agencies and exclusive, private safari lodges in Africa.
TODAY: Through many years in the online industry, we perfected a business strategy that connects our web development and digital marketing expertise. We design, we develop, and we market to drive relevant traffic to our client’s websites. We then built a website to show this off. Check out our case studies and published work to get a better picture of what we do.
From two people to eight, we’ve come a long way. We’re a small team with an array of personalities, but we all have two things in common – we LOVE the web and African travel.
