Is it time to cut the clutter?

Pintrest, Instagram, Google Plus – the list goes on… In its short life social media has grown exponentially.  Even today, we at WildWeb discovered Pinstagram! No jokes. Check it out here: http://www.pinstagram.co/

At first we thought that it was a bit of a laugh. But after a squizz through the homepage we think it just might be legit – it mentions that it is not yet unleashed and that it is a work in progress.

For you social media philistines, Instagram is an iPhone (now on Android) photo sharing app and Pintitrest is a website where anyone can share ‘beautiful things’. So we gather (obviously) that Pinstagram is the, urrr, ‘nasty‘offshoot of the two.  Now we are not saying that this new social media mutant will not bring great joy to certain folk, but too much of a good thing, well, you know… Regardless, if Pinstagram is a late April Fools gag or if its creators are genuine about it, it made us think that things are starting to get a little out of hand, on the social media front.

Sure, competition is good and variety is the spice of life, but when it comes to the gritty nitty how much can we spread ourselves online?  If it be recreation or work our resources (time, effort and sometimes money) are a precious commodity. We have to ask ourselves, if we jump on every social fad online, are we spreading our selves a little too thin?

This question is even more poignant when money is involved. For businesses, bent on reaching out on social media  – sharing our ideas, interacting with our clients (and potential clients), advertising – it might be time to cut the clutter or even think about getting someone to help you grow your brand digitally. Just saying.
