Is “Airbnb” the Right Digital Platform for Safari Lodge Marketing?

Easter is planting its nest, and this means public holidays are within arm’s reach.  Where to go and what to do are the questions buzzing in our minds.

Here is a quick scenario:

Picture this…You just moved to the Durban area from the United States.  You are away from family and friends, and looking for a short getaway to spice up your holiday.  The problem is time is running out!  What do you do?

This may be a personal, original story (ahem, me) but what happens next is not so rare:

Search on the website Airbnb.

We love this site that we’ve just come across. The site’s objective is quite simple; finding you a place to stay. And by a place to stay, I mean you can choose accommodation from over 34,000 cities and 194 countries.  Don’t get too overwhelmed though, the search process is a breeze.

Step 1: Type in where you would like to go, the specific dates, and the number of guests.

Capture
Step 2: Let Airbnb do the work for you by displaying the multitudes of places to stay.

From there, the freedom is yours!  From a variety of places, to a mix and match of prices, you could be a few clicks away from your “DIY” vacation.

Here are the cool things about Airbnb:

Flexible: You can plan a spur-of-the-moment holiday, or use the vast research they provide in planning a vacation for months in advance.
•Safe: Guests and hosts must verify their ID, provide a profile with reviews, and enable a unique messaging system to learn more about the host, or a guest about their review.  Want to learn more?  Click here.
•Unique: Stay in a cottage for a day, luxury safari lodge for a week, or a tree house for a month, the possibilities are ultimately endless!

As a luxury safari lodge should I sign up with Airbnb?

From a WildWeb perspective, our answer is no. It is still too soon to tell if this is a viable platform to optimize your target market exposure.  The varieties of accommodation on the site are diverse and wide and could be a distraction for a luxurious safari lodge, from a niche perspective.

However, this platform is a new rage and a go-to site for travellers.  People from all around the world are using this application to plan their next trip.  With WildWeb specializing in digital marketing in the travel and tourism industry, this may be the next platform to plant yourself in the future! It’s vast, helpful, and quirky and could be the next hot-spot destination to advertise your safari lodge or accommodation to a community of inspiring travellers!

When we think it’s the right time to ride the Airbnb bandwagon, we will be sure to give a shout to all the luxury safari accommodations out there!
