Getting to know Ghost Mountain Inn

GMI-4120

Situated at the foot of the legendary Ghost Mountain in Mkuze, KwaZulu-Natal, Ghost Mountain Inn is an intimate and award-winning hotel.

This relaxed and welcoming country hotel recently came on board as one of our digital marketing clients which means that I was fortunate enough to be able to pay them a visit and get to know Ghost Mountain Inn on a more personal level. After just three nights at the inn, I already felt like part of the Ghost Mountain family and knew that this was going to be a great client to work with.

On arrival, my first thought was that Ghost Mountain Inn is like an oasis in the middle of rural Mkuze. As soon as you enter through the front gates, you feel as though you’re in a totally different place. It’s also very easy to get to from Durban as most of the 3-hour drive is spent on the N2.

We stayed in one of the lovely Mountain View Rooms, which was very spacious and tastefully decorated, with sweeping views of the garden and pool area, towards the Lebombo Mountains in the distance. The inn offers a variety of accommodation options at varying prices to suit the needs and budgets of every traveler. However, while all the rooms and suites are comfortable and inviting, the true appeal of Ghost Mountain Inn lies in its activities as it is the perfect base from which to explore the game and coastal reserves of Zululand and the Elephant Coast.

While at the inn, we were determined to experience as much of the activities on offer as possible. We enjoyed a brilliant scenic drive through the Lebombo Mountains guided by a friendly and knowledgeable guide. During this, we were able to see the beautiful scenery up-close and learn about the community that calls these mountains ‘home’.

On the second day, we did a boat cruise on Lake Jozini. With mountains on the one side and vast open plains on the other side, cruising along Lake Jozini is a stunning experience. During this activity, we spotted numerous different water birds, as well as hippos, crocodiles, and water monitors. On the lakeshore, we saw flocks of ostriches, waterbuck, and more warthogs than we could count. It was definitely the highlight of the trip for me.

We were also able to join in on an afternoon game drive in Mkuze Game Reserve which was exciting as I’m always looking for an excuse to escape to the bush. Unfortunately, most of the wildlife was hiding on this particular afternoon, and we only saw a handful of animals during our drive, however, it was such a privilege to be surrounded by such pristine nature that it didn’t actually matter.

Back at the inn, most of our spare time was spent at the beautiful jetty that’s at the bottom of the property. The serene view of the small lake and Ghost Mountain in the distance was enchanting. Mealtimes were another highlight as the food was simply divine.

The only thing I didn’t manage to do was enjoy the amazing pampering treatments on offer at the spa. So, I guess I’ll just have to go back soon!
