Fluidblue.co.za goes live

This week we launched a new website for Fluid Blue. Fluid Blue are a KZN based surfwear and surf accessories company. Coincidentally, it just so happens that three of WildWeb employees are surfers too, so designing and developing a website for them was a treat.

Fluid Blue wanted a simple website that would mainly showcase an array of their surfing products – like surfboard leashes and wax (each with different colours, sizes etc), surfwear and other surfing hardware. But, they also wanted a no nonsense storefront, where visitors can browse through all of their products, add items to a shopping cart and place orders online.

For the landing section of the website (which hosts their mission statement, contact details and news) we went with the tried and trusted WordPress framework. WordPress is a great content management tool developed for the layman. But just because it is a simple system does not mean it comes with limitations. No sir, WordPress is powerful, flexable and can offer great room for website start-ups to grow.  WordPress is highly customisable and therefore we were able to bend and tweak the framework to suit Fluid Blues needs and taste.

For the shopping mechanism we used another open source solution, called Magento. Magento, like WordPress, is a customisable framework but is more focused on an eCommerce solution. Magento allows Fluid Blue to mange all of their products, online, themselves. They can add products, manage the pricing of these products and monitor orders to stock.

Although, in the past, we have built custom eCommerce websites for clients – which we prefer  – these tend to be for those wanting a more sophisticated and technical solution, built from the ground up. However, for smaller businesses, who would like to test the waters first, Magento coupled with WordPress is a great and unassuming answer. It also allows first timers to up-skill themselves somma quick quick. And with thousands of other like-minded small website owners, around the world, using WordPress and Magento, you are never too far away from guidance and advice when it comes to improving your website.
