Africa’s Travel Indaba might have come and gone but we are still feeling inspired about the fantastic growth and new developments that the African travel and tourism industry is experiencing!
The start of May brought with it one of the world’s major travel and tourism industry events hosted annually in Africa. We are, of course, talking about the prestigious and award-winning Africa’s Travel Indaba, which showcases an incredible range of the best tourism products in Africa and draws an audience of buyers and media from across the globe. Since last year, we have been lucky to have ‘Indaba’ taking place in our hometown, the warm coastal city of Durban, South Africa. Next year will be the final event held in Durban before a new host country takes over the reins for the next three years.
Working with clients who own and manage operations based throughout Southern and East Africa means our time with them is often limited to email and Skype conversations rather than real in-person meetings. That’s why ‘Indaba’ has recently been a special time of the year for us at WildWeb as it is a great opportunity to catch-up with many of our clients who come to our hometown for this event. This gathering is also the time when we establish exciting new partnerships with people eager to build their brand through the various services that we offer our clients at WildWeb.

This year’s theme for Indaba was ‘Africa’s Stories, Your Success’, which emphasised the importance of telling the real stories of Africa as well as showcasing the many successes going into 2019 and 2020. According to South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, “The prospects for 2019 are really good, especially for the season to come”, which is evidenced by the increase of 14 million tourists to the African continent in 2018 compared to the previous year. In fact, travel to Africa grew by 7% in 2018, which is well-above the world’s average of 3.7%!
