Musango Safari Camp is an island treasure accompanied by owners that brighten the camp with a wealth of wilderness knowledge. It was a hard task to replicate such character and history into a website build, but we are proud to present their new masterpiece of a site. It was a true labour of love.
But enough pattuing ourselves on the back about our proud work moment, let’s dive into what makes Musango such a delightful, sought after safari treasure:
Musango is an 8 tented luxury camp that lives on its own wild island on Lake Kariba, just off the shoreline of the Matusadona National Park. Its location alone should elevate a visit to Musango to the top of your travel wish list. Expect old-fashioned hospitality, expert guiding and a camp with a commitment to wildlife and the local people of the area. Steve and Wendy Edwards own and run the island safari camp, but they do so much more than that. When guests stay at Musango they become part of the Edwards family and are welcomed in warmly by these two most hospitable and charismatic hosts.
Steve spent a dedicated 3 years as Warden of Matusadona National Park. This time contributed to a total of 18 years of his life in service to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management where his passion for the African wilderness and its creatures grew. When he retired in 1990, he followed his long standing dream and Musango was created. What a prized dream it has been, as Steve was recently voted as the top Zimbabwean Guide and one out of the ten best guides in Africa. Call him a wildlife encyclopedia if you will.
A perfect combination of land and water activities are offered at the camp including game drives, safari walks, boat and pontoon game cruises, cultural village trips, specialist birding safaris, tiger and bream fishing on Lake Kariba, fossil hunting and canoeing in the private concession creeks and on the lake, depending on how the crocodiles are behaving.
To complete the safari madness, how about a sailing adventure to Starvation Island? It is appropriately named as times of high water cut the animals off from the mainland. At these times guests are left in secluded harmony with their exclusive, blue body of water. Sailing is the most peaceful way to explore the magical lake. Add a sunset to the cruise and your heart will drift away to a happy place, just like the afternoon kissing the sunshiny day a fond farewell.
