Anytime we get the opportunity to build a website for an African safari lodge, we jump on it like an enthusiastic klipspringer antelope. We know the industry, we love it, and it continues to inspire us as creatives.
Situated along the banks of the Mokolo River in the Waterberg Biosphere, Ka’Ingo Private Reserve and Spa approached us to redesign their website. Like many web development tales go, Ka’Ingo’s old website had served its purpose for many years but didn’t quite make the cut in today’s modern web environment. The redesign process began with completely revised content laid out into a fresh, contemporary, and sleek design. Large imagery and captivating video showcasing the special features of the wilderness area influenced the overall design in a dominant way.
Shannon’s designer notes:
As designers, we’re always trying to create or implement new aspects and elements not used in previous designs. With Ka’ingo, I wanted to try a slanted navigation bar as they’re usually always flat. Intriguing drone footage of the diverse Waterberg area is the first visual you see when landing on the site. This was intentional as it creates a powerful initial impression. We also implemented the visual effect of ‘floating’ content. Most websites contain text and images within sections. With Ka’Ingo we wanted to break away from this standardised model – having content appear to be floating over images and in many instances positioned ‘outside the box’ – excuse the pun.
Brandon, our long standing web developer, did an amazing job building the site and making it responsive so it will render well on all devices, from desktop to mobile. Needless to say, the client was thrilled with the final result.
We love the way the new website tells a story of the unique wilderness area that Ka’Ingo is privileged to call home. Check out their new site and make sure to add the Waterberg to your list of South African places to visit.
